About Tarik Mendes

Tarik Mendes is a Brazilian multidisciplinary artist based in New York City whose practice explores the relationship between painting, sculpture, and spatial construction. Working with layered net and screen-based materials, his work investigates transparency, materiality, perception, light, movement, and the shifting relationship between image and space. His work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private collections across multiple countries.

As an artist, Mendes has always valued conversations with fellow artists and creatives. His interest in learning about the experiences, processes, and personal journeys behind other artists’ work became the foundation for Tarik Talk Podcast.

In January 2022, Mendes launched Tarik Talk as a way to highlight talented creatives and give artists a platform to tell their stories in their own words. What began with conversations between artists has developed into an international documentary project dedicated to recording and preserving firsthand accounts of contemporary art and culture.

Created, produced, filmed, and hosted by Mendes, Tarik Talk has grown to more than 200 episodes across 30+ seasons, with episodes recorded live in more than 10 countries. Conversations have featured artists, curators, gallery directors, museum professionals, collectors, architects, designers, and other cultural voices.

Recorded in artist studios, museums, galleries, art fairs, cultural institutions, and other locations around the world, the series reflects Mendes’s belief in the importance of conversation, documentation, and preserving the stories behind creative practice.
